Dovetail Yacht For Sale

Yacht for sale is a 1972 TRUMPY 72' "Dovetail" Houseboat Motor Yacht in Palm Beach, Florida, USA. Welcoming offers.
Note: DOVETAIL is currently hauled out in South Florida for her annual yard period (July –September 2024) – so a great time for a full hull inspection!

A little history … DOVETAIL was John Trumpy and Sons contract #446 built in 1972 in Annapolis, Maryland as one of the last of the popular “Houseboat” models built. Originally named GERIFAY, she served as Committee Boat for the 1974 Americas Cup Races in Newport, RI.

DOVETAIL has an enclosed pilothouse and a large full-width galley on the main deck for easy access. Her overall length is 72’ / 21.95m, with a beam of 18’ / 5.49m and a draft of 4’5” / 1.35m, 69 gross tons / 55 net tons. Her hull is
artfully built of steam-bent oak framing, with double planked mahogany -- 3/8-inch inner mahogany planks and 3/4-inch outer mahogany planks and marine grade 5200. Impeccably well-maintained, DOVETAIL is a classic yacht with fully modernized systems. DOVETAIL was fully restored & refit RI from 2017 to 2020 (at a cost of well over $1 million):

DOVETAIL recent maintenance highlights:
2017-2018: DOVETAIL underwent a major refit with the premiere Trumpy experts at McMillen Yachts in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. During this time more than half the bottom was re-planked below the waterline and the bronze thru-hull valves were replaced and topsides wooded. She was also repowered with twin Cummins QSM-11 650 hp diesel engines, the engine room was fully-refit and DOVETAIL received new gears, shafts, props, and a new exhaust system. The electric service was upgraded to 100-amp with a 24vDC battery system. All other systems refurbished / serviced: Naiad 254 hydraulic stabilizers, hydraulic bow thruster, Spectra watermaker, Cruisair Air Conditioning,
windlass …

2018-2019: Additional mechanical and cosmetic upgrades were completed in Stuart, FL and in Portsmouth, RI including a new redesigned galley installed and complete hull painted in 2019 with white Alexseal. Also in 2019, McMillin Yachts replaced the bottom planking structure around the rudder ports and new steering engineering was installed.

2020 & 2021: DOVETAIL owners cruised in New England during the summers and Florida & the Bahamas during winters, with ongoing maintenance to keep her in pristine condition.

2022: Full renewal of all varnish inside and out – stripped to bare wood and 6 coats applied.

2023: All new teak decks were laid on the aft deck area, which was previously painted non-skid. The engines & mechanical systems were fully serviced in November 2023.

2024: Fresh varnish inside and out in January & February, in March air conditioning was fully serviced. Mid July through September 2024: hauled out for full shipyard period with the bottom thoroughly cleaned and freshly painted, the “worm shoe” replaced, caulking replaced, propellers fully serviced plus installation of an Arid Bilge System. DOVETAIL has received an additional 2 coats of varnish on the interior and exterior. Engine hours as of early July 2024 approximately 2200 hours on both the port and starboard engines. Generator hours on the twin Northern Lights 25 KW generators: 3800 hours on the port generator and 1700 hours on the starboard generator.

The complete and up to date maintenance log is on board DOVETAIL.
